Create mystery, allure and desire when adorning the latest range from Australia’s own, Thursday Sunday. It’s time to exchange restrictive, salacious mini dresses & micro shorts for soft colours, light fabrics and feminine lines. Thursday Sunday present a flourishing combination of creativity while successfully modernising a quintessentially, relaxed Australian style.
Thursday Sunday effectively expresses a dignified and demure sense of fashion, often lost in contemporary womenswear. Comprising of Iris & Mara, the designer duo effortlessly tap into the forgotten world of natural beauty with their comfortable collection of playful, ready to wear garments. Exploring the concept of neutrality, the pair encourages women to discover a true beauty and innocence hidden under fake tans, extensions and suggestive clothing.
Their enthusiasm for fashion is unparallel despite their graphic design and commerce backgrounds. Thursday Sunday successfully prove that subtle and simple is an outright winner when the quality, finish and fibres are flawless. The newcomers channel minimalism, otherwise masked by a generation of over styled icons, separating their basic collection from the competition.

What inspired you to start your business?
We both had just finished uni (graphic design and commerce). The thought of being stuck in the daily 9-5 grind for the rest of our lives was unappealing. We were dreading what seemed the inevitable…
We were driven by our desire to do things for ourselves. Our backgrounds were not fashion related but we had always talked about starting our own label, so we just went with it and it seemed like the right thing to do.
How would you describe your own personal style? Is that reflected in your designs?
We don’t have a set style however, we both agree that it’s ever changing. We love things simple and effortless. Our designs are usually a reflection our current inspiration.
If we had to pick someone who perfectly describes the Thursday/Sunday girl it would be Stevie Dance – creative, independent and driven.

Do you encourage people to get to know their local seamstress/tailors?
Tailor Made=Awesome. When something is well made and fits to your body shape it can really change the look of an outfit. There are so many local tailors around who do a great job and do appreciate quality and fit.
How would you describe your upcoming collection?
Our Spring Summer 2010/11 collection really focused on basic pieces produced with natural fibres. Our inspiration was Coral with a focus on the effect of global warming on our beautiful coral reefs in Australia. We were really drawn to that neutral/washed out colour of dead coral.
How important is it to support local trade?
Very important, Australia is such a large country with so many fantastic resources and skilled people. Why not utilise this?
What advice can you give to people who imitate famous people’s fashion sense and follow trends?
Honestly it’s great to see pictures of celebrities and get inspiration, but what looks good on one person won’t necessarily look good on you. It’s important to make each look your own.
Do you rely on social networking sites to promote your business?
Yes! Facebook is a big one. It’s so easily accessible and is really a fun way to gain exposure. It is also a great way to connect with people – whether it is sharing our designs to gauging interest in our label.
