Fashion Rebel presents an exclusive 3-part feature this month.
Introducing your RMIT Bachelor of Design (Fashion) Students…

… would you please welcome Grace Lee.
Embarking on a journey of exploration, development and growth, Grace Lee has proven herself as a reputable designer as graduation day approaches. With an unwavering desire to fight pressures and expectations within the fashion industry, she has shown that her ethos is both impressive and independent from her peers.
Originally from Cairns, Lee’s designs reflect tropical, earthy and vibrant surrounds. Fluid, fierce and feminine, the warmth and exotic nature of her collections are exceptional.
Determined to expand her repertoire and channel her entrepreneurial instincts, Lee started a successful business as a milliner, selling hats to her loyal clientele during racing season. Recipient of numerous fashion awards during the Spring Racing Carnival, Grace Lee’s signature plaited weave designs and textual twists have displayed a true understanding of cutting edge design.
Following her passion, Lee transported her method and creativity to Melbourne where she aptly displayed an array of impressive talents. Picking up a weaving technique used in the Torres Straight Island, Grace combines a cultural practice with high fashion in order to deliver incredible, avant garde garments and accessories made from leathers, hand printed fabrics and quality materials.
Catching the eye of professionals, Lee is currently seeking employment within design and production industries.

Attention to detail: What should you look for?
I look for materials with texture, something that catches the eye. I love garments that have a special something inside whether it be a material that is unexpected for the lining or just something the wearer would only value.
Tell us where your collections would fit into the current marketplace, who is your clientele?
The collection is intended for women who appreciate unique design and textures. It’s pieced together with garments that could easily be worn with more basic clothing. Anything from printed shift dresses to leggings and textual neck pieces.
What advice can you give to people who imitate famous people’s fashion sense and follow trends?
It’s more important to find your own style and wear something you truly feel comfortable in. People imitate famous people’s fashion sense to hide insecurities. They may follow trends and copy others styles because it feels safe.
Where do you see yourself after graduation?
I’m interested in design and production and would love to be a part of a company that does this within Australia. I will also be looking in other direction such as stage productions. I love create exciting new things and find this would be a great way to keep my creativity alive.
